Nestled at the foot of the Montbrison cliff, Les Vigneaux is synonymous with mountain village peace and quiet. The Eglise St Laurent church was built and decorated between the 15th and 16th centuries and is steeped in charm, featuring highly precise lines and an archway with marble columns. Remarkable painted murals on the outside depicting the vices and their respective punishments. A host of different activities are on offer at Les Vigneaux: hiking, mountain-biking, via ferrata, climbing, cross-country skiing, dog sledding in the winter, and more.
Vallouise is home to an authentic, bustling village atmosphere. Head to Rue du Champ-de-Ville to see traditional houses and the old residences of local characters. The alluring Eglise Saint-Etienne church boasts a 45-metre-high bell tower, a sculpted wooden door, frescos on its tympanum and a 16th-century baroque altarpiece. The Maison du Parc National des Ecrins centre offers an introduction to mountain living and life in the pastures. Many hikes and mountain activities depart from here.
